The 10 songs that mean so much to Piolo
This piece has nothing to do with any “issue” even if my friends have been asking me who I side with — Piolo Pascual and Sam Milby or Lolit Solis. The libel case Piolo and Sam have filed against Lolit is now in court, so the least said about it the best. As I’ve been saying, Piolo and Sam are deadset on ferreting out the truth and so does Lolit with her own truth. Yes, I’m neither pro-Lolit nor pro-Piolo/Sam; I am pro-truth (whatever it may be).
Anyway, tomorrow, Nov. 30, Piolo is celebrating his 10th year in showbiz with a concert aptly titled Ten Piolo Pascual at the Araneta Coliseum, produced by ASAP LIVE and Star Records. (Note: For tickets, call Ticketnet at 911-5555.) (more…)

Game shows ruled the ratings game this weekend as ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya, Deal Or No Deal and GMA-7’s Whammy! Push Your Luck finished first and second, respectively, in the daytime slot last Friday, November 23. Meanwhile, another Kapuso game show, Tok! Tok! Tok! Isang Milyon Pasok tied with Kap’s Amazing Stories at No. 1 last Sunday, November 25.
Kris Aquino’s game show, Deal or No Deal, topped the daytime slot last Friday with 23.6 percent while the game show of Paolo Bediones and Rufa Mae Quinto came in second with 21.7 percent. Another Kapamilya game show, Pilipinas, Game KNB? grabbed the seventh spot with 19.4 percent. (more…)

TV Ratings (Nov. 20-22): “Whammy!” and “PBB Celebrity Edition” improve their performances
Whammy! Push Your Luck escaped Kapamilya, Deal or No Deal’s gallant stand last Tuesday, November 20. Carrying a slim margin, Paolo Bediones and Rufa Mae Quinto’s game show on GMA-7 posted a 23.5 percent rating against Kris Aquino’s ABS-CBN game show, 22.4 percent, to claim the top spot anew in the daytime column.
Despite falling short once again, Deal or No Deal’s Tuesday performance was strong enough to outmuscle Eat Bulaga!, Daisy Siete, and Pasan Ko Ang Daigdig—all perennial topnotchers in the group.
In the primetime race, Marimar remained rock solid at the No. 1 spot. This despite Kamandag’s looming shadow firmly planted at second place. Collecting a 43.4 percent rating last Tuesday, Marimar still got the better of Richard Gutierrez’s new fantaserye, which registered a 40.9 percent rating. (more…)

The 9 Women of Rizal

There were at least nine women linked with Rizal; namely Segunda Katigbak, Leonor Valenzuela, Leonor Rivera, Consuelo Ortiga, O-Sei San, Gertrude Beckette, Nelly Boustead, Suzanne Jacoby and Josephine Bracken. These women might have been beguiled by his intelligence, charm and wit.

Segunda Katigbak and Leonor Valenzuela
Segunda Katigbak was her puppy love. Unfortunately, his first love was engaged to be married to a town mate- Manuel Luz. After his admiration for a short girl in the person of Segunda, then came Leonor Valenzuela, a tall girl from Pagsanjan. Rizal send her love notes written in invisible ink, that could only be deciphered over the warmth of the lamp or candle. He visited her on the eve of his departure to Spain and bade her a last goodbye. (more…)

EDITORIAL – Violence against women
In a nation where women have become so empowered people have sent women to the presidency twice in the past two decades, there are still too many women who become victims of violence. A report yesterday said that from January to October this year, the police received 4,687 complaints involving violence against women. Most of the cases involved physical injuries; others involved sexual assault. Last year the total was 5,758.
The country has passed some of the toughest laws to protect women from violence, harassment and discrimination. Professions that have long been dominated by men, including the military and police, have been opened to women. Special police units have been set up to deal with cases of violence against women and children. Yet thousands of women continue to suffer from violence, often at the hands of their husbands or other relatives. (more…)

John Lapus Blog: Showbiz Math
I live in Project 8, Quezon City. I am renting the townhouse of Direk Wenn Deramas, who is now staying in a bigger house he built three years ago. Everyday, wherever I go, I pass by Mindanao Avenue and crosses Congressional Avenue. At the corner of those two avenues, there is a pre-school that now has a prominet signage, “Singapore Math.” I would laugh everytime I would read it. Natatawa kasi ako sa idea na may sariling math ang bansang Singapore. Ang taray! I don’t know kung ano ‘yon at kung bakit ino-offer sa mga pre-schoolers, basta natatawa ako.
Sana meron ding Philippine Math or, better yet, Showbiz Math. After 14 years (I will celebrate my 15th anniversary next year) in showbiz, I have come up with some mathematical equations na feeling ko totoo. (more…)

Former Star Magic talent Michelle Madrigal now visible on GMA-7
I want to be part of Resiklo raw. Jennylyn Mercado not closing her doors to ABS-CBN
Isang very slim na Jennylyn Mercado ang dumalo sa presscon ng Resiklo—the official entry of Imus Productions for 2007 Metro Manila Film Festival—kahapon, November 28, sa Annabel’s restaurant sa Tomas Morato, Quezon City. Jen plays the love interest of Bong Revilla sa futuristic movie na ginawa para sa mga bata, sa direksiyon ni Mark Reyes.
Kumusta naman working with Bong na first time niyang nakatrabaho?
“I’m honored and flattered nang malaman ko pong ako ang napili ni Senator Bong na makatambal niya,” sagot ni Jen. “Masaya siyang katrabaho. Akala ko nga seryoso siya dahil isa siyang senador. Pero kapag nasa set siya, palabiro pala siya at hindi niya ipinakikitang mataas siya kesa amin. Nagbibiro siya at alaga niya ang buong cast at staff. Lagi kaming busog sa set dahil madalas siyang nagtatanong kung ano ang gusto naming kainin, ipabibili raw niya. (more…)

Additional reactions against PBB’s Mariel Rodriguez
“This is way too much,” ang reaksyon ng reader na si Alyssa (lusciousalyssa@yahoo.com) sa email na ipinadala niya sa amin tungkol sa recent controversial statement ni Mariel Rodriguez na napanood niya sa 24/7 Channel ng Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition 2. Ito ang kuwento ni Alyssa:
Weekly Task: Basketball Game vs. Wheelchair-bound athletes. Mariel: Ita-trashtalk ko talaga sila. Sana wala ito sa 24/7. ‘PILAY! PILAY! PILAY! Joke lang! (more…)
